A preliminary hearing is slated Wednesday afternoon for two Kailua-Kona residents facing theft, drug and firearms charges.
Kealii K. Liilii, 20, and Caitlin K. Tailan, 23, made their initial appearances Monday in Kona District Court following their arrest Friday afternoon. During the hearing, Kona District Court Judge Margaret Masunaga maintained bail for Liilii at $97,000 despite a request from the defense to lower bail and Tailan was granted supervised release.
Liilii, who was on probation, faces three counts unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, two counts f fourth-degree theft and one count each first-degree burglary, first-degree theft of a firearm, second-degree theft, and criminal contempt of court.
Tailan was charged with three counts unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, two counts fourth-degree theft, and one count each first-degree burglary, first-degree theft of a firearm, second-degree theft, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $17,250.
The charges stem from an incident that took place Friday afternoon when the victim of a stolen vehicle observed their vehicle parked within a commercial lodging establishment in the 75-5000 block of Kuakini Highway.
Officers responded and contacted both Liilii and Tailan shortly after within one of the units of the establishment. Both parties were taken into custody. Search warrants were executed on the vehicle and room reportedly resulted in the recovery of a stolen firearm and narcotics.
